Meditating in a space that feels good

While I don’t consider myself to be an expert, I practice meditation every day. I use the calm app - I love that I can choose calming sounds in the background and that there are a few moments at the end where I’m provided some guidance and insights after my breath work.

For most of my practice, I meditated with my headphones on the train. For a while it worked nicely - I had a direct train people were either sleeping or so tired that there was not a peep on the train and it worked well. Most recently, I started taking different trains and my tickets were being checked in the middle of my meditation or the train delays would cause a notification on the loud speaker that would disrupt me and it really started to frustrate me.

So I woke up 10 minutes earlier and started doing it from home - most days anyway. I get up out of bed, have a glass of water and go in the living room. With the lights still dim, I light a candle (the scent and overall vibe helps set the mood). I have a comfy pillow and I sit on my couch with my legs up and crossed. It’s perfectly quiet, much of the world is still asleep and that’s my time with myself to start the day on the right foot. It has really helped to keep me calm and fresh in the morning.

It doesn’t always happen and I cut myself slack on the days it doesn’t, but overall it’s made a difference.

So whether you want to meditate for 2 minutes, 5 minutes, 10 or more, find a space that you look forward to. You don’t need anything fancy! Maybe one day we’ll all create an in home space that rocks our world, but until then, my candle has got me all kinds of zen.

Breathe in. Breathe out. Be well. Xx
